Compete

The Competition Pathway

Fencing's competitive ladder is clear and open to everyone — you enter events, you earn ranking points, you climb. Here's how it works from Yorkshire upwards.

  1. Stage 1 · Club

    Club competitions

In-house tournaments and friendly opens between local clubs. Low pressure, great experience — your first taste of refereed bouts.

  2. Stage 2 · Yorkshire & Region

    County & regional opens

Yorkshire and northern regional competitions across age groups and weapons. This is where most fencers compete regularly — and where Yorkshire Fencing's own events sit.

  3. Stage 3 · England / National

    National age-group events

National youth circuits and championships for junior fencers, plus senior nationals and opens. Results here build national ranking points and can lead to England squad recognition.

  4. Stage 4 · Great Britain

    GB & international

The GB ranking lists feed selection for European and world circuits — cadet, junior and senior — through British Fencing's performance pathway, all the way to the Olympics.
