About

Who we are

Yorkshire Fencing is the umbrella body for sport fencing across God’s Own County — representing clubs, coaches, fencers and volunteers from Sheffield to Scarborough, Hull to Halifax. [We are affiliated to British Fencing as the regional body for Yorkshire.]

We exist for one simple reason: to get more people fencing, and to help the fencers we have go as far as their ambition takes them.

What we do

We promote the sport across West, North, South and East Yorkshire — putting fencing in front of people who’ve never picked up a blade and showing them how easy it is to start. We connect beginners with clubs through our club finder, so the first step is never a mystery.

We run and promote Yorkshire competitions, giving fencers of every age and weapon a competitive home — and a first rung on the ladder that runs from club nights all the way to Team GB.

We support our clubs, coaches and volunteers, because they are the sport. Every county champion, every England squad selection, every Olympian started with a coach in a sports hall on a wet Tuesday night.

Why fencing

Fencing is one of only a handful of sports to have featured at every modern Olympic Games. It’s fast, tactical and addictive — chess at the speed of a sprint. It builds fitness, focus, discipline and confidence, and it’s a sport for life: Yorkshire pistes host fencers from age seven to seventy.

And here’s the secret — you don’t need anything to start. No kit, no experience, no fencing family. Just trainers, tracksuit bottoms and the willingness to have a go. Your local club provides the rest.

Get involved

Whether you want to fence, coach, referee, volunteer at competitions, or list your club on this site, we’d love to hear from you. [Contact email] — or find your nearest club and just turn up.

En garde. Prêt. Allez.
